Body Types - Doshas - Bio Energies

Doshas are the biological energies that govern our bodies. When the energies in

our bodies are normal in quantity and quality, they maintain sound health. Imbalance of these energies is what causes suffering to the body.

There are three energies in our bodies: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Vata dosha is the wind energy responsible for all movements in the body; Pitta dosha is the fire energy in the body; and Kapha dosha is the structural energy in the body. These energies determine the mental characteristics of our minds and the physical characteristics of our bodies. Each of our bodies has a certain ratio of all three of these energies, though one or two may be dominant

Vata dosha means “wind.” It is the air energy in the body which governs all the body’s movements.

Pitta dosha is the fire energy in the body. Pitta is responsible for the digestion and assimilation of food. It maintains the metabolism of the body, and it also

maintains the temperature of the body. It processes thoughts in the mind and emotions in the heart.

Kapha dosha is the building-block material of the body. It is the glue by which all the bodily tissues, cells and organs are connected together to the body. It gives stability to the body and nourishes the entire body. It also maintains the immune system.
